The picturesque settlement of Kato Petali, in central Sifnos

Kato Petali is located east of Apollonia. When viewed from afar, the village appears to stand proudly on a small hill. The settlement spreads around a central paved square, where the beautiful church of Zoodochos Pigi with its tower-like bell towers stands.

Here in the central square of the settlement, some of the events of the Cultural Association of Sifnos take place, such as music and theatre performances, reenactments of traditional Sifnian games, etc.

East of Kato Petali is the historic monastery of Saint John Chrysostom, in which, according to tradition, the first Greek school in Sifnos operated. On the southern outskirts of the village is the picturesque church of Panagia of Koukia (Myrtiotissa 1614).

The architecture of the settlement follows the Cycladic patterns and the village as a whole is another welcoming corner for the visitor.
